Simon Bolam – Deputy Chairman
Simon is currently Principal of E H Ranson & Co, Insurance Brokers, based in Edinburgh.
The firm, established in 1894, has three offices in the Edinburgh area and specialises in personal lines and SME business.
Background
After working for some 8 Years with the Royal Insurance, Simon Bolam joined E H Ranson & Co in 1970 and has been the owner of the business since 1972. He is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Broker.
He is a former President of the Chartered Insurance Institute and former Chairman of the British Insurance Brokers Association.
He has also served on the Insurance Brokers Registration Council and the Board of the General Insurance Standards Council. He was appointed by the FSA to serve on the Smaller Businesses Practitioner Panel in 2003.
Particular areas of interest on the Panel
Previously Chairman of the Panel (May 2008 to May 2010), Simon takes an interest in all the issues covered by the Panel. He is passionately interested in the wellbeing and success of smaller business. In addition, Simon was originally appointed to the Panel to represent the regulatory interests of smaller general insurance intermediaries, where he has particular knowledge and experience.
