Phil Gray – Chairman
Phil is Chief Executive of Beverley Building Society. As such, he is responsible for all areas of the Society's operations. Beverley Building Society has the one branch and has remained focused on providing savings and mortgages to its local community.
Background
Originally qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Building Societies Institute, now the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Phil has worked in the building society sector for more than 27 years. This was firstly at Halifax Building Society and now at Beverley. So he has gained experience at larger and smaller financial services businesses, and also achieved an MBA from Heriot Watt University. During the course of his career, Phil has covered most areas of retail personal savings and borrowing.
Particular areas of interest on the Panel
Phil is particularly keen to ensure that the interests of smaller building societies and smaller businesses generally are reflected within the work of the FSA, so that firms and customers enjoy a balanced financial services market.
