Peter Evans

Peter is Chief Executive of the Police Credit Union, responsible for its operation and overall development. The Police Credit Union is the 4th largest in the UK, serving 16,500 members from 7 branch offices throughout England. All members are drawn from 19 English police forces and are serving or retired police officers, police staff, or their family members.

Background

Peter’s career has been spent in marketing, development and general management in a range of sectors, including commercial, charitable, mutual and not for profit. For eleven years he was in a senior management role in a large regional building society, and for six years was in health insurance.

Peter has been in his current role for over 4 years. The Credit Union sector generally covers the financially excluded and financially challenged segments served through community based credit unions, and so he has an appreciation of this area, although the employee/employer based credit unions do not have the same profile.

Particular areas of interest on the Panel

As he was appointed to represent credit union sector, Peter feels he has an exceptional opportunity to represent all facets of the credit union sector. This is particularly in the light of its growing profile and impact on the financial services market and its first new legislation for 30 years. He hopes to extend the oft used term "banks and building societies" to become "banks, building societies and credit unions" as common parlance for the financial services sector.
